Geraldo Perdomo hit a walk-off single to cap a two-run ninth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied from a four-run deficit to spoil Shohei Ohtani's longest outing of the season in a 5-4 victory Tuesday in Phoenix.
Tanner Scott (1-4) hit Ildemaro Vargas and walked Tim Tawa to open the ninth before James McCann bunted the runners over and Jorge Barrosa tied it with a sacrifice fly.
Perdomo lined a single to left for his 98th RBI to keep the D-backs (80-77) within one game of the final NL wild-card berth.
Teoscar Hernandez homered and drove in three runs and Ohtani pitched six scoreless innings before the Dodgers' bullpen imploded.
Ohtani gave up five hits, all singles, and struck out eight without a walk. The Dodgers (88-69) remained three games from clinching the NL West for the 12th time in 13 seasons.
Hernandez hit his 25th homer leading off the second inning off Brandon Pfaadt, and his two-out, two-run triple gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning.
Dodgers catcher Ben Rortvedt hit his first homer of the season in the seventh to make it 4-0 before the D-backs responded.
Diamondbacks pinch-hitter Adrian Del Castillo hit a two-run homer off Edgardo Henriquez to cap a three-run seventh that included James McCann's two-out, RBI double as the D-backs got to within one.
Scott has blown three of his last five save opportunities and has given up nine runs in his last 7 1/3 innings. His 10 blown saves are the most in the majors.
The D-backs (80-77) remained one game behind the New York Mets (81-76) and tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the third NL wild-card spot with five games remaining. The Reds win the tiebreaker over both. The D-backs are three games over .500 for the first time since they were 41-38 on June 24.
Ohtani, who had not pitched into the sixth inning in any of his previous 13 starts, threw 91 pitches. He gave up singles to Perdomo and Corbin Carroll in the sixth but retired Gabriel Moreno on a line out to center to end the inning.
Ohtani registered 101.2 mph on a four-seam fastball to strike out Carroll looking in the fourth, and he averaged 98.2 on his 44 four-seamers, according to Statcast. He did not have a walk.
He was struck on the heel of his glove by Thomas' 105.8 mph line drive leading off the third, but remained in the game after a visit from the training staff.
Pfaadt gave up four hits and three runs, with four strikeouts and two walks.
