The Oklahoma City Thunder are shutting down All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander until after the All-Star break when he will be re-evaluated for an abdominal strain, the team said Wednesday.
The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.8 points (second in the league) as well as 6.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 33.3 minutes in starting 49 games for the defending NBA champion Thunder.
Gilgeous-Alexander, 27, will miss Wednesday's game against the host San Antonio Spurs as well as dates with Houston on Saturday, at the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, at the Phoenix Suns on Feb. 11 and the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 12.
The three-time All-Star and MVP of the 2025 NBA Finals will not be available for Team World in the new U.S. vs. World format for the All-Star Game on Feb. 15 in Inglewood, Calif.
The Thunder host the Brooklyn Nets on Feb. 20 in their first game after the break.
Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 20 or more points in 121 consecutive games, five shy of tying Wilt Chamberlain's league record of 126.
