Shea Langeliers had three hits, including a two-run homer during a four-run first inning, to lead the Athletics to a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night in West Sacramento, Calif.
Tyler Soderstrom had two hits and an RBI and Brent Rooker and Carlos Cortes also drove in runs as the Athletics won for the third consecutive game and the seventh in their past eight. Jacob Lopez tossed five shutout innings for the A's.
Corbin Carroll had an RBI and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Alek Thomas each had two hits as Arizona extended its season-worst losing streak to six games. The Diamondbacks have dropped nine of their past 10 games.
Lopez (4-6) gave up five hits and two walks and struck out five.
The A's traded star closer Mason Miller to the San Diego Padres before Thursday's trade deadline. Sean Newcomb got the call in the ninth and worked around a walk to wrap it up in a no-save situation.
Arizona traded scheduled starter Merrill Kelly on Thursday and Anthony DeSclafani was called on to deliver the spot start.
It didn't go well as DeSclafani (1-2) struggled in his second start of the season. He gave up four runs and five hits in just 2 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out none.
The Athletics sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning against DeSclafani.
Lawrence Butler and Nick Kurtz led off the bottom of the first inning with singles and Rooker's sacrifice fly drove in Butler.
Langeliers then came up and laced a first-pitch slider over the fence in left to make it 3-0.
Soderstrom followed with a double. One out later, Cortes singled to right and Soderstrom narrowly beat a strong throw home by Carroll.
The Athletics added another run in the fourth as Rooker and Langeliers singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Soderstrom then ripped a ground-rule double that skipped over the low wall in right center as Rooker scored.
Arizona scored in the seventh off Luis Morales, who was making his big-league debut.
Jose Herrera singled with one out and Ketel Marte followed with a ground-rule double. Carroll followed with a sacrifice fly to score Herrera.
