Rookie Daniel Carlson kicked a 35-yard field goal with no time left and the Oakland Raiders broke a five-game losing streak with a 23-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in Glendale, Ariz.
The Raiders (2-8), despite talk that they should lose the rest of their games to get the first pick in the 2017 draft, guaranteed they will not surpass the worst season in their history, 1-13 in the American Football League.
Al Davis took over as head coach and general manager and led the Raiders to a 10-4 record.
Arizona (2-8) had a 21-20 lead when the Raiders got the ball on their 27 yard-line with 1:53 left in the game.
Quarterback Derek Carr took Oakland down the field for the 15th fourth quarter comeback in his career, including seven when he helped the Raiders to a 12-4 record two years ago.
Carr completed a 32-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Marcell Ateman and hit Seth Roberts, his only veteran wide receiver remaining because of injuries, on a short pass than went for 20 yards to set up Carlson's winning kick. The rookie made field goals of 49 and 21 yards earlier.
With no timeouts left, Carr took the snap and threw the ball into the ground to stop the clock with two seconds left.
Carr completed 19 of 31 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns, a 23-yarder to tight end Jared Cook and a five-yarder to wide receiver Brandon LaFell, with no interceptions.
Rookie quarterback Josh Rosen of the Cardinals completed 9 of 20 passes for 136 yards three touchdowns, two to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald for five 18 yards, plus a 59-yarder to wide receiver Chris Kirk.
The five-yarder to Fitzgerald gave the Cardinals a 21-20 lead with 5:02 left in the game, but Rosen also threw two costly interceptions.
David Johnson rushed for 137 yards on 25 carries, but also had a 57-yard touchdown run nullified back by a holding penalty.
